All about David De Gea’s performances and what he gives to team, admits Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

In light of David De Gea’s struggles, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confessed that past glories will not guarantee the Spaniard a place in the starting 11 at Manchester United. The 30-year-old has struggled for form over the last few weeks and reports indicate that the club are looking to rotate him.Despite an uptick of form this season, David De Gea has still been more than prone to the occasional blunder as his performance against Everton showcased. It allowed the Toffees to claw their way back into the game via a late equaliser by Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, the game has since been remembered for the errors made by De Gea especially with that tally rising game by game. That has seen many fans and critics alike call for the 30-year-old to be dropped in favour of Dean Henderson especially given the lack of game-time the young goalkeeper has received. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that while De Gea’s place in the starting eleven is far from a guaranteed one, Henderson himself also has to perform to earn his place. The Manchester United boss further added that everyone in the squad has to do the same if they want to earn a place on the team.“It’s not about who has got the most trophies. I’m in a very fortunate position to have the goalkeeper department that I have – and it was a conscious decision to bring Dean [Henderson] back to have real competition. Dean has made it harder and harder for me, of course, to leave him out because whenever he plays he does really well. It’s about what you give to the team, here and now – whether you’re a left-back, right-back, on the left wing or right wing,” Solskjaer said, reported Goal.“I think the whole squad knows they have to perform to be in the team. We have, I would say, at least two players in every position who would feel ‘I am a first choice’. The keeper position is no different to the right-back, left-back or centre-forward position. It’s about your performances and what you give to the team.”Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Jack Grealish is the most talented player I have ever seen, proclaims Emiliano Martinez

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez believes that Jack Grealish is essentially ‘Lionel Messi with a right foot’ and confessed that the Englishman is the most talented player he has seen. The 25-year-old has been one of the stars this season with 18 goal contributions in the league so far.Despite all the hype surrounding Jack Grealish, few fans actually believed that the Englishman was that good until the 25-year-old stepped things up this season. Somehow, only Kevin De Bruyne has created more chances in the Premier League than Grealish with his ten assists matched by the Belgian. It has seen the Villa captain heavily linked with a move to nearly every big Premier League side but nothing has materialized as of yet.It has seen Emiliano Martinez admit that, in his opinion, Grealish is the “most talented player I’ve ever seen” especially after watching the Englishman in training and this season. The Argentine goalkeeper further confessed that the Aston Villa captain is a lot like Lionel Messi as nobody can get the “ball off him”. He also added that while Messi is the “best ever”, Grealish has a lot of traits that the Barcelona legend does and a step ahead of even Mesut Ozil.“He is the most talented player I’ve ever seen. He never gives the ball away. When I see Grealish running, it’s always a shot on target or a corner for us. He will drive past two or three players. I just see Messi with a right foot when he has the ball. You can’t get the ball off him. He’s the most talented English player and I’m surprised he hasn’t played more games for England,” Martinez said, reported Goal.“Messi is Messi, he’s the best ever. But in terms of training, when Jack has the ball, people don’t want to tackle him, they respect him, he can finish, he can chop, he can do everything. When I train with Messi for the national team, it’s the same. Nobody wants to touch him, he chops people, he treats players like cones. I see that with Jack here.”Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Truthful Tuesday | False nine has changed football as we know it and not for the better

It started with Nándor Hidegkuti as England were humiliated by a mighty and marvellous Hungarian side at Wembley. The scoreline was written into history and has never ever been forgotten by anyone that has anything to do with football. But it is far from over and it has certainly changed the sport.Because even 65 odd years since Nándor Hidegkuti first did it in front of English football fans, it was already a hundred years old by then. And yet, while there have been various other incarnations from the great Alfrédo di Stéfano to the equally great Johan Cruyff, arguably the most famous, or rather the most rememberable, of them all has to be Lionel Messi. It was called as a master-stroke, the first time Barcelona and Messi executed it, with the world shocked. How dare they take what could be a superb attacker from his preferred position out on the right and place him more centrally? How dare Pep Guardiola, barely a year and a half into his Barcelona tenure, take the club’s best prospect and place him more centrally? But as the history books will tell us, the move turned out to be his greatest move and Real Madrid were swept aside. Lionel Messi became the greatest modern incarnation of the false nine and suddenly world football wanted it.They couldn’t get Messi of course, given how stubborn Barcelona have held onto their best asset, but it didn’t stop many from trying their very best. Robin van Persie did the trick for Arsenal, and later Manchester United, for a while. Cesc Fabregas did it for Barcelona soon after Lionel Messi and the trend has gone on and on and on and on. That, in turn, has led to a complete rehaul and re-shuffle of tactics and formations with managers looking to compete with something a little extra. But what it has really led to is the complete annihilation of a proper striker. Not even a decade ago, football was thriving, and some may say overflowing, with quality strikers of all ages. From the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Filippo Inzaghi, Samuel Eto, Diego Milito and a young Edinson Cavani in Italy to Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, Chicharito, Michael Owen and Luis Suarez in England. Even Spain had Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema, Alvaro Negredo, Aritz Aduriz and others thriving. It was a world filled with players who had only one thing to do on the football field and did they do it well, so well that when the big boys came calling, clubs had no choice but to sell. It’s why Emmanuel Adebayor went from Arsenal to Manchester City to Real Madrid before leaving for Tottenham. He is a talented forward who could do a lot of things but the one thing he did really well at was finding the net.So much so that he only failed to hit double figures for goals in three seasons during his spell in England and that includes an 8 appearance season for Manchester City. It’s an impressive record no doubt but Adebayor could do little else and it’s why in the modern era he finds himself a free-agent. The fact that he is also 36-years old might have a little something to do with that but even that’s beside the point because the false nine changed everything.Suddenly, thanks to Messi’s over-effectiveness in that position, it became the new “sexy” position to play in football and everyone wanted it. Not just that but it saw football become a little weird as Louis van Gaal sent Marouane Fellaini out wide as a target man. Why? People to this date have no clue but Dan Burn was used in a similar-ish position against Liverpool and it worked. How or why? Till date, nobody knows but it did and that just continued to encourage managers across the universe.Suddenly it was the latest trend, with every manager trying new things from Zinedine Zidane figuring at a way to play not one but four attackers in the same formation to Ajax playing Dusan Tadic as their striker in the Champions League. It sent out a wave of ideas and suddenly the world had decided to ignore conventional footballing wisdom for the more eccentric and weird ones, which changed the game. But along the way in that battle to the find the weird or the universal perfect team, the conventional center-forward disappeared. Instead, the world loaded up onto a hype train flew off to some random station without a care in the world as to how it would affect future generations. Because now suddenly, here are a group of young forwards struggling to find their way through in a world where they should be thriving. Not just because of the all-around demands on players but the demands to play deeper. Not the demands to be able to beat the offside trap at ease and score, or the demands to cause chaos with their runs across the defensive line but to be able to move into midfield and allow runners through. That did allow the old fashioned center-forward to thrive with Olivier Giroud, Sebastien Haller and Bas Dost amongst others to thrive and find their moment in the sun.But once football became faster and all about high pressing and quick transitions even they were quickly phased out. It has now led to a present where a quick glance across football and there’s a vacuum of nothingness across it. Because suddenly, out of absolutely nowhere, the lack of quality strikes in world football didn’t just disappear but they dropped completely off the face of the earth. At the moment, beyond Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, there’s nothing but a vacuum between the ages of 24 to 30.There is quite literally nobody else good enough, in that age bracket, to be considered alongside either of the two and it has left teams lacking.  Because while there are claims that modern football could do it all without the striker, the world proves otherwise. Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham wouldn’t be Tottenham without Harry Kane’s incredible numbers and the same applies to Jose Mourinho’s team. While he does, as it has been pointed out quite a many times on the internet, lack the trophies and personal accolades to be considered the best English striker, the 27-year-old is definitely on that list.  Take Lukaku, now at Inter Milan, again much like Kane – his trophy case is also rather bare which is a shock given his spell at Manchester United but such is life. And yet, despite his awkward first touch, the Belgian is arguably in a class of his own having just equalled Ronaldo Nazario’s record at Inter Milan. A feat that no other player has managed since the great Brazilian did it more than two decades ago. Then there’s Robert Lewandowski and Sergio Aguero, arguably the greatest outliers in the mixer. The Pole and the Argentine haven’t been considered to be the greatest striker in world football for quite a while when the truth is, that they may be the best the modern generation has seen. Especially when you consider what Aguero has done under Pep Guardiola, a manager well known for his hatred of playing pure center-forwards.So much so that he put Cesc Fabregas into that role during his time at Barcelona but somehow both Aguero and Lewandowski became key parts of his plan at Manchester City and Bayern Munich respectively. Nobody knows who but the duo, alongside Edinson Cavani at PSG, have proved that with a striker you can still play the attractive brand of football you want and thrive. Of course, when it comes to being the best center-forward in the modern era, Cristiano Ronaldo might just take that cake. The Portuguese legend’s transformation into a bonafide, goal-scoring machine in his late twenties has transformed the Serie A and given the new generation something to aim at. It’s why the likes of Moise Kean, Jonathan David, Timothy Weah, Silas Wamangituka and co are all doing well across the world. But every group has one talented center-forward who shines the light on everyone else and for this one, they’ve got two. One, built more in the shape of the modern world striker in Kylian Mbappe and the other built-in the mould of the yesteryear legends in Erling Braut Haaland.  Together the duo holds the torch for the future of their position although Haaland’s arrival on the scene as a teenager who did nothing else but to score goals at an absurd rate has seen the world flummoxed. After all, in a world where the false nines thrived, and still continue to, how did one teenager opt to build his game around the legends of yesteryear? Shocking, isn’t it? What it has given though is the world hope that one day soon, a new generation of the Guman or the “Capocannoniere” will grace football with their wonderful ability to send people into raptures of excitement.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

First involvement for Amad Diallo in Manchester United senior squad

The former Atalanta forward arrived at the club in January.
Amad Diallo has tonight been picked in a Manchester United first-team squad for the first time, starting on the bench for their FA Cup fifth round tie against West Ham United.
The Ivorian/Italian winger arrived at Manchester United from Atalanta in January and has featured for the u23s since his move.
His quick ascension to the first-team comes after impressive performances for the u23s. The winger featured just twice for the u23s but his return rate has been nothing short of incredible, totalling 6 goal contributions in those games.
Diallo is known for his exceptional close control, agility and ability to retain possession in tight spaces. He doesn’t lack end product, either, based on his output for Manchester United and Atalanta’s youth squads.
Irish underage international Mipo Odubeko also features on the West Ham United bench.
The 18-year-old striker has been in formidable form for West Ham youth squads since he joined from Manchester United in 2019.
He made his first-team debut in the FA Cup last month and could be in line to receive more minutes tonight.

🚨 Presenting tonight’s starting XI, featuring @AmadDiallo_19 among the subs…

Mike Dean takes time off amid death threats

Mike Dean takes time off amid death threats: referee Mike Dean has faced numerous death threats after a duo of controversial red card incidents.
Mike Dean has asked not to participate in any of this weekend’s games as an official after vicious social media backlash. Dean received online abuse and death threats after giving two controversial red cards in both the West Ham and Southampton games.
These red cards have caused debate as they were appealed and later overturned, sparking anger amongst fans. The first red was flashed to Southampton defender Jan Bednarek against Manchester United in their 9-0 win at Old Trafford.
Martial was clean through on goal before being tucked down by the defender. However, despite the Saints protesting, Bednarek was given his marching orders. Bednarek could be heard on live tv as he walked down the tunnel while being consoled by a staff member, saying:
“Martial said it wasn’t a foul”.

The second incident occurred during the West Ham v Fulham game at Craven Cottage last Saturday. During a West Ham freekick, midfielder Thomas Soucek appeared to elbow Mitrovic in the face, flinging himself to the ground.
The in form Czech received a straight red, looking baffled as to why he was sent off. Dean had referred to his officials, VAR, and the pitchside monitor before making both decisions. This, in turn, only made fans angrier for his error in judgment.
Support for Dean
However, with Dean and his family immediately receiving targeted abuse, many have rallied around him. One of these has been the player he sent off, Soucek, who voiced his support on Twitter.
“Whatever decisions are made on the pitch should stay on the pitch.
“I don’t like hearing about it interfering with personal life, and I send Mike Dean and his family my support.”
However, Hammers manager David Moyes was less sympathetic, slamming the referee as his side drew 0-0.

The Premier League is in support of Dean as police investigate the matter further. Former top flight official Mike Riley voiced his support for Dean’s situation via Sky news.
“Nobody should be a victim of abhorrent messages like this. Online abuse is unacceptable in any walk of life, and more needs to be done to tackle the problem.”
Dean will still referee the FA Cup fifth round match between Leicester and Brighton tomorrow night despite threats. After that, he will be taking a week or so off to avoid further backlash.

F.A. Cup

Midweek F.A. Cup Preview

With both Manchester clubs in action, the fifth round of the F.A. Cup features some of the strongest teams in the country. It will also see some of this season’s minnows attempt to cause a ‘Cupset’ and progress to the quarter-finals of a competition that can be a lifeline to smaller teams.Who will win and who will crash out at the last 16 stage? Let’s take a look in our crystal ball and pick some winners.Manchester United vs. West Ham United (Tuesday, 7.30pm GMT kick-off)This could be a cup classic. United host West Ham in what many will tell you is a home banker but in actual fact is anything but. These two have massive F.A. Cup history, despite never having met in a final. Back in 2001, Paolo Di Canio scored the only goal with a controversial winner past Fabian Barthez in an iconic cup moment. That was twenty years ago, but just five seasons back, a stunning free-kick from Dimitri Payet gained The Hammers a draw in another cup corker. With both teams highly likely to find the back of the net, West Ham would be a good pick in a regular game, let alone one where they could well face a Red Devils side who are already without Paul Pogba and will be sorely tempted to rest Bruno Fernandes given the risk of burnout. We think West Ham could win in a goal-packed game, and they’re tempting odds to do so, particularly on the Betfair Exchange where the odds are excellent. Our tip: West Ham to win and both teams to score (7/1)Everton vs. Tottenham Hotspur (Wednesday, 8.15pm GMT kick-off)Another all-Premier League tie pitches Carlo Ancelotti against Jose Mourinho, two of the games greats going head-to-head against each other.Everton beat Tottenham in the opening game of the Premier League season, with a 1-0 victory enough to put immediate pressure on Spurs’ Portuguese manager. That pressure has ebbed and flowed throughout the past four months since then to the point where bot managers are now feeling the need for a cup run to assuage any board or fan pressures from being heaped on their shoulders.Because of this, we think a tight game might go past 90 minutes, with a draw likely to see the game only get interesting as it nears its conclusion. Our tip: The Draw (11/5)F.A. Cup 5th Round Fixtures:Tuesday 9th February Burnley vs. Bournemouth (5.30pm GMT kick-off)Our tip: Burnley to win (11/8)Manchester United vs. West Ham United (7.30pm GMT kick-off)Our tip: West Ham to win and both teams to score (7/1)Wednesday 10th FebruarySwansea City vs. Manchester City (5.30pm GMT kick-off)Our tip: Manchester City to be winning at half-time & full-time (4/5)Leicester City vs. Brighton & Hove Albion (7.30pm GMT kick-off)Our tip: Pascal Gross to score at any time (13/2)Sheffield United vs. Bristol City (7.30pm GMT kick-off)Our tip: Bristol City to win (9/2)Everton vs. Tottenham Hotspur (8.15pm GMT kick-off)Our tip: The Draw (11/5)Thursday 11th FebruaryWolverhampton Wanderers vs. Southampton (5.30pm GMT kick-off)Our tip: Total goals 0-1 (2/1)Barnsley vs. Chelsea (8pm GMT kick-off)Our tip: Cauley Woodrow to score at any time (7/2)

Marcus Rashford is not going to be clinical center-forward like Edinson Cavani, asserts Andy Cole

Former Manchester United star Andy Cole believes that Marcus Rashford will never be as clinical as Edinson Cavani and won’t be able to hit that 20 to 25 goals mark every season. The 23-year-old has had a good season for the Red Devils this year with sixteen goals in thirty-five appearances so far. After both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford thrived last season, many expected the Red Devils’ front-men to continue that run of form but that hasn’t been the case. While Martial has struggled, Rashford has done relatively well, although not as well as many have expected him to do. The 23-year-old has still managed to net 16 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions with six in the Champions League and eight in the Premier League. But the forward is nowhere close to the likes of Mohamed Salah or Harry Kane which has seen many admit that he could never hit the 25 goals per season mark despite the hype that surrounds him. That was reiterated by Andy Cole as he admitted that Rashford “is not going to be a clinical center-forward like a Cavani”. The former Manchester United star further added that he doesn’t believe Rashford has that clinical side to him.“Marcus is not going to be a clinical centre-forward like a Cavani. Marcus will nick himself a certain amount of goals season in, season out, but he won’t be that individual you’re looking for to score 20 to 25 goals. I don’t think Marcus has got that clinical side in him. If you look at what Man Utd have now with Cavani; you know what you’re going to get [with him], it’s as simple as that,” Cole told talkSPORT.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .

Premier League Review – Gameweek #22

The English Premier League is the most entertaining league to watch in the world every weekend, and February kicked off in stunning style as Manchester United dropped a two-goal lead for only the fourth time in Premier League history at home to Everton.Elsewhere, there was a damaging defeat for Arsenal and a controversial red card for Tomáš Souček as talking points seemed to come in every game.Let’s catch up on exactly what happened up and down the country in the best football league on Earth.Manchester United 3-3 EvertonA dramatic game at Old Trafford saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side pegged back in the title race after a late equaliser gave Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton a share of the spoils. An incredibly open game could easily have seen the sides level at half-time, but it was United who went into the break with a two-goal lead, courtesy of goals from Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes, though a lot of credit should also be given to Marcus Rashford for a wicked ball in that was begging to be headed home by the obliging Uruguayan.United scored their second when Bruno Fernandes, celebrating a year at Old Trafford by averaging a goal involvement (goal or assist) in every one of his 37 games, smashed in a looping shot-cum-lob that looked to have given United an unassailable lead. That wasn;t the case, however, and just like in 2012, it was Everton who broke United supporter’s hearts. Back then, a 4-4 draw masterminded by David Moyes allowed the ‘Agueroooo’ moment a few days later to confirm the title going to the blue half of Manchester. This time, a goal from Abdoulaye Doucore after an awful error by David De Gea then slack defending from a cutback allowed James Rodriguez to draw The Toffees level. United rallied and, perhaps spurred on by needing to make amends for such wasteful defending, scored a third through Scott McTominay. The Red Devils were never settled, however, inviting Everton on, clinging on. In the 96th minute, a full two past the allotted extra time, their worst fears were confirmed as Dominic Calvert-Lewin got onto the second ball from a Digne free-kick and nudged home. United, so good for many periods, had to settle for a draw and hope Manchester City would drop points at Anfield.Liverpool 1-4 Manchester CityAs you can see from the scoreline, that didn’t happen and in some style as Manchester City dismantled any lingering fortitude the once awe-inspiring Anfield held for visiting teams. Having gone 68 games without defeat, the current champions have suffered three home defeats on the spin after 0-1 ‘blips’ against Burnley and Brighton were compounded by a reminder of Manchester City’s ruthless heart.City weren’t sparkling for the first half, although they would have taken the lead before the break if Ilkay Gundogan hadn’t blazed his spot-kick over the bar. In the second half, however, Gundogan made amends by opening the scoring after fine work from City’s front three, featuring English forwards Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden. Both those two would grab a goal, as would Gundogan, after two massive blunders by Liverpool’s Brazilian ‘keeper Alisson not once but twice made ridiculous passes in his own penalty area to gift chances to the opposition that they were never going to pass up. A final flourish from man-of-the-match Phil Foden saw the young City midfielder smash home a gleeful fourth past Alisson, who must have wished for Anfield to swallow him up.City march on, but Liverpool, now 10 points back, are surely out of contention to retain a crown that took them three decades to wear. After the game, Jurgen Klopp spoke to Liverpool’s own channel about the game and his disappointment about the concession of the three points.English Premier League Gameweek #22 Results:Aston Villa 1-0 ArsenalBurnley 1-1 Brighton & Hove AlbionNewcastle United 3-2 SouthamptonFulham 0-0 West Ham UnitedManchester United 3-3 EvertonTottenham Hotspur 2-0 West Bromwich AlbionWolverhampton Wanderers 0-0 Leicester CityLiverpool 1-4 Manchester CitySheffield United 1-2 Chelsea

Manchester United should not be considered as title chasers, asserts Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

On the back of a 3-3 draw against Everton, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that while Manchester United have improved, they aren’t and should not be considered as title challengers. The Red Devils currently sit in second place, two points behind leaders Manchester City on the Premier League table. With just one loss in their last fifteen Premier League outings, a run that has seen the club win all but four games, many expected Manchester United to sweep Everton aside. While the Red Devils did exactly that in the first half, things did not exactly go according to plan in the second half. Instead, the club were forced to watch as the Toffees somehow managed to sneak a late equaliser to prevent Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side from going top of the table. But the Red Devils are still six two points behind Manchester City although they have played two more league games than their cross city rivals. However, it was seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admit that his side “should not even be considered as title chasers” because they’re still a team that’s improving. The United boss further added that while they “have come a long way”, there is still a lot to do. “We are not talking about winning titles. We have come a long way, this team. We should not even be considered as title chasers. That is more talk that you (the media) are saying We need to be better as a team and see where we end up. Going forward, we need to stop conceding easy goals,” Solskjaer said, reported Goal.Manchester United swept to a 2-0 lead in the first half against Carlo Ancelotti’s men thanks to some superb football but struggled in the second half. Instead, they were forced to watch as Everton scored twice in the space of five minutes to level the scores. But a Scott McTominay goal seemed to have won it for the Red Devils until Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late winner sealed the draw. Solskjaer further added that while his side played some “good football” they can’t concede “three goals from three shots on target” and need to improve defensively. “We played some good football in the second half but conceded three goals from three shots on target. When you do that it is disappointing. I wouldn’t blame anyone on the goals but we know we could have done better as a team on all of them.  Results create the mood, the last kick of the ball makes us go home really disappointed. We have lost two points on a long thump upfield which we should have defended,” he added.Follow us on Facebook hereStay connected with us on Twitter hereLike and share our Instagram page here .
